Moritz Ostruschnjak’s work is very much of the times. In his works, the Munich-based choreographer explores how increasing digitalisation shapes our physical and social experience. Using social media as a starting point, his pieces generate unique movement material that reflects social processes in dance. Overload and fascination go hand in hand when navigating the World Wide Web. Ten dancers perform on an empty stage, caught between digital and analogue worlds—virtuoso, young, and powerful.
As an active member of the German graffiti scene, Ostruschnjak developed his interest in contemporary dance through breakdancing. He trained at Iwanson International in Munich and subsequently completed his studies at the Maurice Béjart Academy in Lausanne. He has worked as a freelance choreographer since 2013.
tanzmainz is a contemporary dance company based at the Staatstheater Mainz, which has previously participated in the Visavì Gorizia Dance Festival with Sharon Eyal’s Soul Chain. Led by Honne Dohrmann, the company comprises twenty-five dancers who collaborate closely with a diverse production team to stage three to five world premieres each year.
