The Idrija mercury mine in Slovenia was active from 1490 to 1995 and was once one of the most important in the world. It shaped the lives of many families—my grandfather, his father, and his brother were all miners.
Through exploring the concept of personal and inherited values, such as perseverance and hard work, I examine how these values are embodied. Passed down through generations, they endure quietly but powerfully. I reflect on the silent depths of the mine—the silence of the underground now echoes within us. “Srečno,” the miners would say to each other before going down. My grandfather still says it.
This performance is the result of the BorGO LIVE ACADEMY advanced course for contemporary theatre and dance authors, promoted by ArtistiAssociati and curated by Roberto Castello.
