“Etna exudes an air of age, whereas Fuji is the very embodiment of youth, its lines suggesting movement and momentum. Etna is powerful and reminiscent of a wise giant. Sometimes it is terrifying, but even then, it seems to shake its chains with the mysterious inevitability of a nocturnal destiny. Fuji, on the other hand, is agile and proud like a sword. It invites you to be bold…”
Fosco Maraini’s words guide us through Roberto Zappalà's new creation, in which the dancers of the Compagnia Zappalà Danza meet Munedaiko, musicians dedicated to the practice and promotion of the traditional Japanese Taiko drum, and the musical research is enriched by the impressive soundscape composed by Giovanni Seminerio.
Roberto Zappalà is the artistic director and choreographer of Zappalà Danza, which he founded in Catania in 1990. Of his more than 85 creations, “A.semu tutti devoti tutti?” (2009, revived in 2019) and “La Nona – dal caos, il corpo” (2015) won the Danza&Danza Italian Production of the Year Award.
Scenario Pubblico Compagnia Zappalà Danza is recognised as a Centre of National Interest for Dance. This recognition crowns 35 years of success for the company, as well as the establishment of Scenario Pubblico 23 years ago—the first European choreographic centre in Italy.
